Pony Express, GA
[Newton County]
Population: unknown
Population: unknown
Pony Express is a crossroads in Newton County not far from Social Circle and Newborn and the old stagecoach and post roads. It is obvious where the name comes from. The four corners of the crossroads today consist of, respectively, a gas station, a repair shop with towing service, a cattle farm and until summer 2007, this sign which used to stand on the lot that has since been developed as a "commercial complex consisting of a car-wash and a 3,000 square feet convenience store with 2,000 square feet of additional retail tenant space".

Manassas, GA
I stopped by here in 2004 and had a nice talk with the locals. I had had difficulties finding the post office because I kept looking for the flagpole, and was told that when the place was robbed (for $ 20 and a couple of stamps) a few years before, the robbers backed into the pole when they took off, destroying it. As of April 2008, it has yet to be replaced, and as far as we know the reason is that the USPS is in the process in shutting down these small rural post offices in an effort to make people go to the uniform streamlined post offices in larger towns (in this case, that would be Claxton).
